Dr. Cissy Reynolds-Perez is a graduate of TAMUCC where she earned her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership and TAMUK where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Education and minored in English. In August of 2020, Dr. Perez (Cissy) was appointed as the Superintendent of Kingsville ISD which happens to be her hometown. In 2018, Dr. Perez (Cissy) was appointed by Governor Abbott to the Texas School Safety Center Board of Directors for two terms. She serves on State Representative Todd Hunter’s Suicide Prevention Task Force and served on Judge Barbara Canales’s Mental Health Task Force. Some of Dr. Perez’s honors include: TASSP Secondary Principal of the Year, HEB Elementary Principal of the Year, Texas A&I Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni, Hispanic Women’s Network Award, Y-Women in Careers Award, NASSP Distinguished Principal Nominee. As Ray High School principal, Dr. Perez (Cissy) invited over 2,000 of her students to write letters to her to share concerns and recommendations about school safety after the Parkland and Santa Fe School Shootings. She told her students, “This is your world and we adults need to hear your ideas about how to help prevent school shootings.” Dr. Perez (Cissy) hosted the first legislative panel in a Texas High School focused on School Safety that included several hundred students and 3 state legislators: Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, Representative Todd Hunter and Representative Abel Herrero. Dr. Perez (Cissy) and her students were featured on Headline News/HLN-CNN and NPR. She has presented on the subject of school safety and suicide prevention at several functions such as SXSW-Edu 2019 in Austin (South by Southwest). Dr. Perez (Cissy) initiated a Suicide Prevention Task Force by partnering with Chairman Todd Hunter. Together, they and the task force were able to get legislation passed and signed by the governor in reference to Suicide Prevention: HB 3980 and HCR 137. Dr. Perez (Cissy) believes that she has worked with some of the best educators, students and parents at the elementary, middle, and high school that she and her teams transformed from low performing to Recognized & Distinction status! Dr. Perez (Cissy) was honored to have served as Assistant Superintendent of West Oso ISD where their entire team increased academic performance by double digits! Dr. Perez is honored to serve on the TASA Advocacy Committee, Member of STAS Association, Secretary of ESC2 Executive Committee, Member of TAC and TARS and Board Member of TALAS. Dr. Perez is excited to serve as the superintendent in her hometown of Kingsville, Texas. She believes that with teamwork these few years have been a historic transformation for KISD!
